Rumor is part of a cycle of choreographic spectacles that Joana Providência has been creating at the Bolhão Theater and which have as reference works of contemporary plastic artists. The work of Christian Boltanski - painter, sculptor, photographer and director, who uses the installation as a fundamental support of his creative universe - serves as a motto to work. The presence of Boltanski, however, is not merely a formal option of the spectacle: its matrices, more particularly with regard to the themes of death, forgetfulness, childhood and memory, constitute the lines of force of the spectacle. From a biographical, real and fictional point of view, the creative universe of the spectacle is seen as a journey through memory and identity.
The quest for the "little story" within History is at stake: how do family memoirs, small records, and storytelling are a living breathing of history that is being written in books? How does personal and intimate experience reflect a particular historical and social context, and how does the memory of this experience persist? Rumor also seeks, in the registers and testimonies of Portuguese political prisoners, to find a living reflection of the social and political context of a dictatorship.
