MENINA DO MAR
2010
"My name is Menina do Mar (Portuguese for ‘the girl of the sea’) and I have no other name. I don't know where I was born. One day, a gull brought me to this beach, put me on a rock in the tide ebbs and the octopus, the crab and the fish took care of me."
This girl has two gifts: she can breathe out of the water as men do and in the water like fish. She always lived in the sea and wants to know the Land but can't go too far from the water because she’ll dehydrated. Also, her freedom is limited because she’sthe dancer of the "Great Streak," the Lady of those seas, who constantly watches her through seashells. Her fascination with the Land and for knowing everything that exists outside the sea strengthened her friendship with the boy and together they dream, relive and plan many adventures.
Menina do Mar is a contemporary narrative, written in poetic prose, an emblematic text of literature for children and adolescents, which feeds into the reader/viewer thirst for dreams and wonder.
